Disney’s 5th Animated Feature

Bambi is Walt Disney’s 5th feature film, following Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Dumbo.

Its world premiere was in London on August 9, 1942. It premiered in the United States on August 13, 1942. Since the premiere occurred during the difficult years of World War II, the film initially struggled to make an impact; however, its message about the connection between animals and nature ultimately resonated worldwide.

The Origin of Bambi: Felix Salten’s Novel

Bambi is based on the novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods, written by Austrian author Felix Salten in 1923.

The original story is more realistic and focuses on the struggle for survival in the wild.

Walt Disney purchased the rights to the book in 1937 to adapt it for the screen, recreating a world full of natural beauty and emotion, where deer leap, rabbits frolic, and the cycle of life unfolds before our eyes.

The Production of Bambi: A Challenge for Disney

The animation team studied live deer brought directly to the Disney studio to observe their movements and behaviors, ensuring the most natural animation possible.

Tyrus Wong, a Chinese artist, designed the backgrounds with a minimalist and impressionistic style that gave the film its unique look.

El trabajo en la animación duró varios años debido a la complejidad de los movimientos de los animales.
